Faith Is Not a Noun

Vice Presidential candidate Stephen Broden

Remarks of Pastor Stephen Broden

Constitution Party 2024 Vice-presidential Candidate

November 5, 2024

Delivered on election night at the West Allis watch party, while waiting for the election results.

The blood of innocents cries out for vengeance.  And it’s not crying out to us, it’s crying out to God.  And God will respond, so there’s a real challenge for us to communicate that to this country and to our citizens that there is a threat to us that is larger than what we see from the Democrat Party – although that is an authentic threat – and one that we ought to be very careful to push back on and make sure that they do not have the kind of success that they are trying to perpetrate on us right now.  But the greater threat – the greater threat, and I think one that is represented in the voice of this campaign, is that this country runs the threat of offending a God who will respond in justice to injustice.

When God Punishes a Nation

I will say this, that has been over my head during the whole campaign: John Calvin, who was a 16th century theologian, said this, “when God punishes a nation, he gives them wicked leaders.”  You think about that – He gives them wicked leaders.  Now, I’ve thought about that for a while and I said, “Randy, are we waiting for a wicked leader, or do we have one?”  You answer that question.  Are we waiting for one, or do we have one?  In my mind, we have one in Joe Biden.  However, it is not as worse as it could be.  The “could be” is looking us in the face right now through Kamala Harris.

Stop the Killing

Pastor Stephen Broden speaking at the CPoW watch party

Pastor Stephen Broden

So, at this point I believe we are at a moment where we are challenging our culture to stop the killing – to recognize that this is something that is not good for our nation.  It’s not good for the moral health of our nation; it’s not good for the spiritual health of our nation, and it’s time for us to wake up to that reality and push back.  So that’s what this campaign has done, and that’s what this campaign is all about.  Now we have invested time, talent and energy and money into this campaign.  Anything worth having, somebody says, is worth working for – and we went to work because we were called.  We were called to this moment.  And God enabled us, and our prayer is Lord, open the door that no man may close or close the door that no man may open.  God has opened doors for us across this country unlike any other that I have witnessed as a pastor over many, many years, and I’ve pastored for 37 years.

Go Get ‘Em Tiger

What I do know is this: that in America, to make things happen, it takes money, and one thing that we as conservatives have been derelict about doing is making a monetary sacrifice to the rescue of this republic.  The other side is investing in the destruction of our republic.  We have not responded yet.  And I don’t know why we haven’t responded.  The threat is authentic, and there is a screaming need, a desperate need for us to respond, not only with an “amen, brother,” or “go get ‘em, tiger,” but here, go get ‘em with this – money.  And as we bring this campaign to an end, we have a deficit. . . if you’ve given, give more.  Not for the sake of helping us get out of debt, but for us to rescue this republic.  It was Samuel Adams that said this, then I will sit down.  “It doesn’t take a majority to win, but an irate minority keen on setting brush fires of freedom in the hearts of men.”  You could be the brush fire, or the flame that starts this fire across this country, because you’ve decided [that] I’ve had enough.  And I’m not talking about retiring with a 401K into tyranny or wanting a vacation into tyranny or wanting to have a comfortable life into tyranny, but I’m investing into the future, for my children and my grandchildren, that our way of life will not die. . . . .

Faith Is Not a Noun

Pastor Broden with Randall TerryOne word of encouragement, and I tell my congregation this all the time – listen to me – faith is not a noun.  Did you hear that?  Faith is not a noun; it’s a verb, it’s what you do.  It’s what you do.  And you’re doing should never be conditioned based upon what you see.  For faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.  And so we’re hoping.  But here’s my encouragement as I give the microphone to Randall.  My encouragement, no matter what the outcome is tonight, if it’s up, praise God but we still have to fight.  If it’s down, praise God anyway.  We still have to fight, not to be defeated, not to throw in the towel, not to hang our heads, but we stand up and say we will go on anyway.  The song, Onward Christian Soldiers ought to be the theme in our minds no matter what the outcome may be.  We will fight, and we will fight to the end.  And I will go down fighting rather than bow my head in contrition to a demon.  I won’t do it.  God bless you.
